Our Mission
SHPE changes lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support, and development.

Our Chapter
While SHPE at UCI has existed on campus since the late 1990s, it became dormant around 2005. Yet in Spring 2009, a fresh group of students re-founded the chapter. Under the guidance of their talented advisor, and SHPE at UCI alumni, Marvin Maldonado, the new executive board began recruiting and growing the chapter. Since then, SHPE at UCI has grown at a tremendous rate and has established a major presence at UC Irvine. With the help of new and experienced members, in 2013 SHPE at UCI successfully established SHPE Jr. chapter at Century High School in Santa Ana, California. More recently, in 2016 SHPE at UCI was  awarded "Most Improved Engineering Student Organization",  "Most Outstanding Special Interest Organization", and "Student Organization of the Year" at the University of California, Irvine. Today, SHPE at UCI continues to create opportunities and resources for Engineering students at UC Irvine and beyond.

We're always open to new ideas and active members who are looking to get involved in the growth of our chapter. We invite everyone who's interested to join us for more successful years to come.

Our Purpose
The five pillars of SHPE.

SHPE provides its members with a number of different events that allow them to network with companies and grow into successful professionals. These opportunities allow members to prepare for career fairs, providing them with a competitive advantage.

SHPE encourages members to seek leadership opportunities to better prepare themselves for the workplace. To do this, many opportunities are generated within the chapter itself to facility the growth of future leaders.

Active focus is given to the academic development of our members, which we reinforced through study sessions and mentorship programs.

SHPE at UCI creates opportunities for members to better themselves through networking events that fall outside of academics and professionalism.

Give back to the community by volunteering your time to mentor high school students on academics and college applications, and create events such as Noche de Ciencias.

SHPE as a national organization.
"The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) was founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the city of Los Angeles. Their objective was to form a national organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community.

The concept of Networking was the key basis for the organization. SHPE quickly established two student chapters to begin the network that would grow to encompass the nation as well as reach countries outside the United States. Today, SHPE enjoys a strong but independent network of professional and student chapters throughout the nation." - Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers

SHPE is a national organization and is comprised of 7 regions through the United States, with Alaska falling under Region 1, Hawaii falling under Region 2 and Puerto Rico falling under Region 4.

SHPE at UCI falls under region 2 and our chant at regional and national conferences is, "Whose house? Two's house!"
